Degree Committees
Article 3.8 of the Regulation on Official Degree and Master's Degrees (Governing Council of 28 July 2017) establishes the duties of the Degree Committee:
- To formulate the proposal for the offer of places and admission criteria, in accordance with the report on the degree, for its approval by the centre's board and subsequent approval by the Governing Council in view of the report issued by the centre's board.
- To formulate the proposal for the annual teaching programme (ATP) and the assignment of the teaching of the degree subjects to areas of knowledge, after consulting the participating departments, for approval by the centre's board and subsequent approval by the vice-rectorate with competence in the subject. In the case of centres with several degree qualifications, these competencies may reside with the committee that is indicated for this in its rules of procedure and/or QAS. Once the centre has notified the departments involved in teaching the degree of the approval of the annual teaching programme, they will assign the teaching staff to the subjects of the degree in accordance with the regulations in force and the teaching and research qualifications of the teaching and research staff.
- To approve the proposals for teaching collaboration from personnel outside the USC, for its processing by the competent vice-rectorate, indicating the costs and resources available for their participation.
- To analyse the teaching guide (programming) of each subject previously approved by the department that has assigned the teaching task, to supervise that the programme and other parts of the annual programming of each subject are adapted to the verified degree report (MVT) in force and forward its report to the centre’s board for its approval.
- To advise, if requested, on the recognition of competences of the students enrolled in the degree.
- For master's degrees, to determine the training complements that students must take according to their access profile, as long as this is determined in the study programme report.
- To process proposals for the modification of the degree in accordance with the provisions of this document and the regulations in force.
- All those other duties of an academic nature necessary for the correct implementation of the programme and which were not entrusted to any other body.
According to the centre’s Internal Regulations (Governing Council of 9 November 2018), the following are competences of this committee, among others that may be delegated to it by the School Board:
- To report on any incident that may occur in the implementation of the teaching.
- To study and resolve requests for validations and recognitions received at the Centre based on the tables or reports prepared by the corresponding Degree Committee.
- To study and resolve requests for validation and recognition of those matters not covered in the previous point in accordance with the lines established by the USC.
- To study and resolve requests for validations and recognitions for professional experience.
- To study and resolve requests for partial or extraordinary registration
- To study requests for waivers of attendance or changes of group and report on their resolution.
- To inform the School Board and the Management team in those matters submitted for its consideration.
- All questions related to the EDP/EMP: list of subjects, proposals, tribunals and consolidated minutes.
- Any other duty related to teaching that is the responsibility of the School Board and that this publicly delegates to the Committee.
In relation to the Quality Assurance System (last review approved in the Quality and Planning Committee delegated by the Governing Council on 3 May 2018), includes the following among its functions:
- To analyse the information provided by the coordinator of the degree and the Quality Manager of the centre (QMC) in order to monitor the degree and prepare the centre's Annual Quality Report.
- To carry out periodic monitoring of the degree and prepare the corresponding reports.
- To make proposals for improvement derived from monitoring, to forward this to the Centre Quality Committee and their incorporation, if appropriate, into the centre's improvement plan.
- To make a proposal for the amendment or deletion of the degree, if this is the result from regular monitoring. In the event that a degree course is withdrawn and there are students enrolled in it, the degree committee or the academic committee establishes the appropriate mechanisms to monitor the implementation and development of specific tutorial and guidance actions, maintaining the usual analysis of the implementation of the teaching.
