X-ray laboratory
The X-Ray Unit is dedicated to the study of the structure of compounds (diffraction sections).

During 2016, the X-Ray Unit, with the support of the RIAIDT Management, the Vice-Rectorate for Research and the Quality and Procedure Improvement area, started a quality programme aimed at the development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of a Quality Management System in accordance with the requirements established by the UNE-EN-ESO 9001:2015 Standard.

The implementation of this system involves the prior standardisation of protocols, procedures and processes in accordance with the Standard, which allows its evaluation and subsequent certification by an external entity, accredited by ENAC.

The X-Ray Unit's Quality Management System obtained the ESO 9001:2015 Standard Certification in June 2017, with a scope that covers the following field of application: Reception, sample management and analysis by Monocrystal and crystalline powder techniques.

  • The services can be requested from the USC by any interested researcher, public bodies and private companies. Access to the equipment is restricted to the technical staff of the X-ray Unit, except in the case of users who can demonstrate suitable experience in using the equipment and the necessary hardware and software. User training courses are offered for the different techniques available.

  • Samples must arrive at the Unit's headquarters, and must be accompanied by a printed form containing the minimum data necessary to begin data collection. The Unit's technical staff will inspect the samples to determine whether they are suitable for data collection before proceeding with data collection.
