Its main aim is to support scientific research and teaching, providing the university community, other institutions and any public or private entity with animals controlled and kept in the conditions regulated by current legislation, supporting any research project that requires experimental animals.
There is an Animal Experimentation Ethics Committee (CEEA in Spanish) that supervises the correct execution of procedures and provides advice on animal welfare.
The execution of all experimental procedures carried out must follow the indications of the guidelines on animal welfare of the European Directive 2010/63/EEC and RD 53/2013.
The Experimental Animal Facility is authorised, according to RD 53/2013, and authorised by the Xunta de Galicia as an authorised body for the assessment of animal experimentation projects.
