It is advisable not to use solvents such as DMSO or DMF and to avoid the presence of salts that may interfere with the sample (NaCl, NaOAc...). In case the sample contains salts, a separate desalting can be performed with Zip-Tip Desalting (chargeable service).
  • The samples will be sent solid or in solution in a vial labelled with its identification code, and must have a suitable concentration according to the following table:

The samples to be analysed will be mixed with an organic matrix according to the standard protocol of the Unit and deposited on the metal surface of the MALDI plate. If samples need to be measured in matrices other than the usual ones (HCCA, DCTB, SANA, DIT, DHB), or if a specific preparation protocol is required, the user must indicate this as a remark in the service request form or contact the Unit.

In the case of users who have their own MALDI plate, they will have to book an appointment (by telephone or e-mail), where they will be given a date and time for their analysis. On the form, they will also have to provide the positions of the samples on the MALDI plate, the matrix used and the calibrant if applicable. In this way, the Unit will not carry out any treatment of the plate or samples, but will only analyse them.

Although the equipment used in MALDI acquires spectra in high resolution (Reflective mode), it does not perform Accurate Mass Measurement, as it is not a technique suitable for this additional service. On the other hand, the user can be provided with a visual comparison of the experimental peak with the theoretical peak of the formula provided, but without the statistical data of the AMM.
