This technique consists of the separation of ions according to their mobility in an inert gas in the presence of an electric field. In this way, it provides information on the size, shape and charge of the ions. This drift tube consists of a series of stacked electrodes that have a static DC electric field applied across them. The ions acquire a velocity along the tube governed by the electric field and the mobility of the ion in the gas.
