Location

Research Support Building (CACTUS). Lugo
Campus Lugo s/n, 27002
Lugo
Schedule
Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Operational equipment
Every chemical, physical or biological process is accompanied by the production or consumption of heat. Microcalorimetry is a very versatile technique to study thermal activity in the form of heat, heat flow and heat capacity.
  • TAM-III is a multi-channel microcalorimeter with a thermostat that monitors the bath temperature to an accuracy of 0.0001 °C. This thermostat uses mineral oil that rapidly dissipates heat and minimises temperature gradients in the system. Temperature fluctuations in the TAM-III are ±10 µK in the 15-150 °C range and the 24 h drift is around ±100 µK. It can be used in isothermal, step-isothermal or temperature gradient mode.

    Instruments

TAM-III Multicalorimeter (TA Instruments) with six 4 mL capacity mini-calorimeters. Glass ampoules can be used for experiments at low temperature ranges, or stainless-steel ampoules for samples that react with glass, or when working at higher temperatures or suspected outgassing during the test.

  • The most common applications are in:

    • Pharmaceuticals: polymorphisms, drug-excipient compatibility, stability, amorphicity and crystallinity.
    • Materials: Stability and compatibility.
    • Life sciences: microbial activity, detection of microorganisms in blood, dose-response curves.
  • Unidade de Análise Instrumental

Edificio de Apoio á Investigación (CACTUS) Lugo
