Location

Research Support Building (CACTUS). Lugo
Campus Lugo s/n, 27002
Lugo
Schedule
Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Operational equipment
The measurement of the change in mass of a sample with temperature is performed on a thermobalance and is known as thermogravimetry.
  • Differential scanning calorimetry is a technique for measuring the heat flux of a sample and a reference material as a function of temperature. The signal obtained is the energy absorbed or emitted by the sample.

The simultaneous TGA-DSC equipment measures both parameters at the same time, making it a valuable tool for characterising the physical and chemical properties of materials under controlled atmosphere conditions.

TGA/DSC equipment with 34-position autosampler. Oven up to 1100 °C. High resolution balance. Possibility of coupling with FT-IR spectrometry equipment for the analysis of decomposition products.

  • Some of the phenomena and thermal processes that can be determined by TGA/DSC are:

    • Adsorption and desorption of gases: fusions.
    • Crystallisations.
    • Process kinetics: polymorphisms.
    • Sublimation, evaporation and vaporisation: phase diagrams.
    • Thermal stability: Glass transitions.
    • Oxidation reactions: kinetics.
    • Identification by decomposition products: heat capacity.
    • Transition and reaction enthalpies
    • Pseudopolymorphisms
    • Determination of Curie temperatures.
  • Unidade de Análise Instrumental

Edificio de Apoio á Investigación (CACTUS) Lugo
