Work placements

Students may obtain academic recognition of optional credits for the completion of external work placements related to the degree. In order to improve the employability of the graduates, the Faculty of Mathematics promotes the establishment of agreements to carry out Work Placements and manages their organisation as a complementary academic offer in the training of its students.

At present, in addition to the general agreements of the USC, there are specific agreements to carry out Work Placements by the students of the Faculty in the following companies/institutions: Asesoría  Luis Fernando SL,  BIOSTATECH, Centro tecnológico de Supercomputación de Galicia (CESGA), Enfermería de  Gestión Sociosanitaria, Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria de Santiago de Compostela ( IDIS), Instituto Gallego de Estadística (IGE), Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE), Instituto Tecnológico de Matemática Industrial (ITMATI),  INDRA Soluciones,  Kidcode, Meteogalicia - Consellería de Medio Ambiente y Ordenación del Territorio - Xunta de Galicia, Ogando Durán SL,  Quorum Económico SL,  RS Motor Power  Solutions o el Servicio Gallego de Salud (SERGAS)(SERGAS), as well as several town councils in Galicia.

The student may also promote, through the Faculty, the Social Council or FEUGA, the offer of Work Placements in a certain company or entity, provided that there is no previous agreement with it, in which they will have priority access.

The USC offers students the possibility of doing Work Placements in companies and other public and private entities as a complement to their academic training. This programme is covered by an educational cooperation agreement, so there is no employment relationship with the company where the Work Placements are carried out.

Work Placements are a means of acquiring knowledge, work experience and obtaining credits.

Students of the Degree in Mathematics must take 36 optional credits corresponding to 6 subjects, of 6 credits each, freely chosen among 12 offered (6 in each term).

Students may obtain academic recognition of a maximum of 6 optional credits for external Work Placements related to the degree.

There are other ways to access the Work Placements:

  • Social Council. Only valid for plans not adapted to the EHEA. The application form can be found at the Social Council’s head office and its website, from where it is also possible to register using your National Id (DNI) card and TUI password. The common call is usually in January. Through the direct award form, the student can propose the company where they wish to do the Work Placements.
  • FEUGA. The foundation has two Work Placements programmes in place:
    • The Educational Cooperation Agreement FEUGA addresses its offer to students from the three Galician universities. These Work Placements are usually called in May for a minimum of one month and a maximum of four months.
    • The FEUGA Scholarship Plan is aimed at graduates of Galician universities in the last three years of their career, with a maximum of 30 years of age, and they can access Work Placements opportunities in companies for new graduates without work experience. They are called throughout the year and their duration cannot exceed a total of 12 months.
    • Applications to participate in any of these FEUGA scholarships must be sent by post or presented at its headquarters in Santiago or at the office in Vigo.
  • Centres and faculties. Coordinate the Work Placements of the degrees. It is necessary to consult the agreements they have signed. If there is no agreement, the company where you are going to work can be proposed. The application must address the following requirements:
    • The minimum duration will be determined by the centre, the maximum being 500 hours.
    • A proposal must be submitted that includes the work plan to be carried out.
