The Optics and Optometry Service provides clinical care for all types of problems related to primary visual care.
Primary visual care
- Carry out visual examinations effectively in each of its phases: anamnesis, choice and performance of diagnostic tests, establishing the prognosis, choice and execution of treatment and drafting, if appropriate, referral reports establishing the levels of collaboration with other professionals, in order to ensure the best possible care for the patient.
- Advise and guide the patient and relatives throughout the treatment.
- Communicate the therapeutic indications for visual health and their conclusions, to the patient, relatives and other professionals involved in the patient's care, adapting to the socio-cultural characteristics of each interlocutor.
- Design and apply prevention and maintenance programmes related to the visual health of the population.
- Issue opinions, reports and expert opinions when necessary.
Teachers
- Train degree students as future primary visual care agents. Acquiring knowledge, skills and abilities in the performance of visual examinations within the field of primary care.
Research
- Carry out research projects that contribute to the production of knowledge in the field of Optometry, transmitting scientific knowledge by the usual means.
- Participate effectively in unidisciplinary and multidisciplinary working groups in projects related to optometry.
Continuing education
- Broaden and update their skills for professional practice by means of continuing education.
