The Centre for Modern Languages has been offering Portuguese language courses since 1988. It also organizes the exams for the accreditation of language proficiency in this language.

The USC Centre for Modern Languages offers Portuguese courses to the university community and interested individuals over the age of 18. These courses are aligned with levels A2 and B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The courses last 50 hours, combining in-person sessions with guided independent work, and are structured on a semester basis.
Completing Portuguese courses at the CLM entitles students to ECTS credit recognition in undergraduate studies.

The A2 level is the basic level. Individuals who wish to take a Portuguese course at this level can enroll directly through the Secretaría Virtual.
Those who have an accredited level at the CLM because they passed a course in the previous semester can enroll directly in the next level.
Individuals who do not have an accredited level at the CLM must first register for a placement test, which is free and conducted in person.
The placement test only authorizes enrollment in the level achieved, but it does not serve as accreditation for the corresponding level according to the CEFR.
If multiple dates are offered for the placement test, it is recommended to attend the first one, as course spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
The placement test is free of charge for students.

To certify your Portuguese level at USC, the university offers several options:
- Pass a Portuguese course at the CLM that completes a level of the CEFR.
- Take the Portuguese language proficiency tests at the CLM.
- Submit a recognized certificate or diploma from an institution where you need to be accredited.

In undergraduate studies at USC, credits can be recognized for transversal skills, such as language training activities.
Completing Portuguese courses at the CLM entitles students to ECTS credit recognition in undergraduate studies, ranging from 3 ECTS for B1 to 6 ECTS for C2.
