The Centre for Modern Languages has been offering English language courses since 1976, as well as conversation activities in this language. It also organizes the exams for the accreditation of language proficiency in this language.

Here you can find the equivalence between the CLM courses and those of the CEFR.

  • The USC Centre for Modern Languages offers English courses to the university community and anyone interested over the age of 18. These courses are aligned with levels B1, B2, C1 and C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

    They may consist of 50 or 100 hours, combining face-to-face instruction and guided independent work in different ways, and can be offered on a semester-long or annual basis. Intensive courses are also available in the summer.

    Completing English as a Foreign Language courses at the CLM entitles students to ECTS credit recognition in undergraduate studies.

    Conversation sessions are also available both online and in person at intermediate and advanced levels, with a minimum requirement of B1. The activity consists of 15 sessions, each lasting 40 minutes. Most sessions are conducted online, making it essential to use a device with high-quality audio and video. Online groups have a maximum of 4 participants, while in-person sessions allow up to 6.

  • To certify your language skills, there are several options at USC:

    • Pass an English course at the USC CLM that completes a level of the CEFR.
    • Take the English language proficiency exams at the USC CLM.
    • Provide a certificate or diploma recognized by the institution where you need to certify your level.
  • In undergraduate studies at USC, credits can be recognized for transversal skills, such as language training activities.

    Completing English courses at the CLM grants the recognition of ECTS credits in undergraduate studies, ranging from 3 ECTS for B1 to 6 ECTS for C2 (students receive 1 ECTS for every 25 hours of the course, with a maximum of 6 ECTS).
