The Centre for Modern Languages has been offering Italian language courses since 1976.
The Centre for Modern Languages has been offering Italian language courses since 1976. It also organizes exams for the accreditation of linguistic competencies in this language and conducts the tests for obtaining the Certificazione d'italiano come lingua straniera (CILS) from the Università per Stranieri di Siena.

The USC Centre for Modern Languages offers Italian courses to the university community and anyone interested over the age of 18. These courses are aligned with levels A2 and B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
They last 50 hours, combining in-person sessions with guided independent work, and are structured on a semester basis.

The A2.1 level is the basic level. Those who wish to take an Italian course at this level can enroll directly through the Secretaría Virtual.
Those who have an accredited level at the CLM because they passed a course in the previous semester can enroll directly in the next level.
Those who do not have an accredited level at the CLM must first register for a placement test, which is free and conducted in person.
The placement test only grants access to the level achieved, but it does not serve as accreditation for the corresponding level according to the CEFR.
If multiple dates are offered for the placement test, it is recommended to attend the first one, as course spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
The placement test is free of charge for students.

To certify your Italian language proficiency at USC, the university offers several options:
- Successfully completing an Italian course at the USC's CLM that corresponds to a CEFR level.
- Taking the Italian language proficiency exams at the CLM.
- Submitting a certificate or diploma recognized by the institution requiring your accreditation.
- Taking the exams for the Certificazione di Italiano come Lingua Straniera (CILS) from the University of Siena, for which the CLM is an official examination centre in Galicia.

In undergraduate studies at USC, credits can be recognized for transversal skills, such as language training activities.
Completing Italian courses at the CLM grants recognition of ECTS credits for undergraduate studies, ranging from 3 ECTS for B1 to 6 ECTS for C2.
