Legal studies have been present in European universities since their origins in the 11th century, although the existence of schools for the training of jurists predates this. In the specific case of the USC, the Faculty of Law traces its origins back to 1649. Since then and until the present day, it has been exclusively in charge of university legal education in Galicia until the 1990s, when other Faculties with legal education were established in the Galician University System.
