A doctoral programme in Epidemiology and Public Health in Galicia is of vital importance for, on the one hand, maintaining research in public health, which would contribute towards improving the quality of life of the population, and of the administration and of healthcare management. On the other hand, it would also contribute to training new professors in order to ensure the generational sustainability of the Public Health research group, by training new researchers. This would also contribute towards scientific production and towards future lines of research.

A doctoral programme in Epidemiology and Public Health in Galicia is of vital importance for, on the one hand, maintaining research in public health, which would contribute to improving the quality of life of the population, and health administration and management.

On the other hand, it would also contribute to the training of new faculty in order to guarantee the generational sustainability of the Public Health research group, through the training of new researchers, which would contribute to scientific production and lines of research in the future.

In fact, and considering the very likely professional profile of most of the students who will take the PhD, public health professionals and residents, it is planned to include in the offer a higher percentage of places for students who wish to take the programme on a part-time basis.

  • In general, the Master's studies that provide access to this Programme without supplementary training are: Master of Public Health by USC or any of the Master's degrees in Public Health from CIBERESP agreement. Access without supplementary training is also open to students with research competence or holders of the Diploma of Advanced Studies obtained through previous doctoral programmes in Public Health by the USC.

In the case of candidates with profiles different to those mentioned above, the Academic Committee evaluates each case individually. The possibility of requiring supplementary training will be considered (maximum 15 ECTS).

In the case of profiles of prospective students who have not taken a Master's course, they will need to provide proof of equivalence in training in research credits, at least equal to those of the Master's degree which provides direct access, which are 60 ECTS. These credits will be recommended preferably in the area of Public Health by the Academic Committee.

Students with an unaccredited foreign degree can apply for admission to doctoral studies provided they can certify a level of studies equal to the Spanish official University Master's Degree and authorises the holder to access Doctoral level studies in the issuing country. This admission will under no circumstances entail the accreditation of the previous degree nor its recognition for purposes other than to access these courses.
