Forensic Science is a complex area of knowledge with a clear practical application in the solution of issues with high social significance. They train specialized professionals who are required to provide assistance to the Ministry of Justice in matters of utmost importance (investigation of violent deaths, toxicological diagnosis, paternity, identification, etc. ).

    Las Ciencias Forenses constituyen un ámbito de conocimiento complejo con una clara aplicación práctica en la resolución de cuestiones de gran trascendencia social, ya que forman profesionales especializados que son requeridos para prestar auxilio al Ministerio de Justicia en cuestiones de suma trascendencia (investigación de muertes violentas, paternidad, identificación, diagnóstico toxicológico, etc.).

    El programa está apoyado por los grupos de investigación de Medicina Legal y Criminología, Genética Forense, y Toxicología Forense, también vinculados al Instituto de Ciencias Forenses de la USC. Los tres grupos, referentes a nivel nacional e internacional en este ámbito, desarrollan tres grandes líneas de investigación, siempre guiadas por los últimos avances científicos y enfocadas a la resolución de las principales incógnitas del momento.

    El objetivo principal del programa es formar a los mejores profesionales e investigadores en los distintos ámbitos de las Ciencias Forenses, que generen investigación de calidad e impacto internacional, y adecuadamente preparados para afrontar los cambiantes retos científicos que les planteará la sociedad.

    The program is supported by the research groups from Forensic Medicine and Criminology, Forensic Genetics, and Forensic Toxicology, also linked to the USC's Institute of Forensic Sciences. The three groups, national and international references in this field, develop three major lines of research, always guided by the latest scientific developments and focused on solving the latest major mysteries. The main objective of the program is to train the best professionals and researchers in the different areas of Forensic Science so that they carry out quality research with an international impact, and who are adequately prepared to deal with the changing scientific challenges that society creates.

  • The profile to access this doctoral programme is that of a student who in addition to meeting the enforceable legal requirements, expresses a clear interest in Forensic Science, has team work skills and initiative, and has a level of English high enough to successfully complete the doctoral course.

    The Master's studies that provide access to this doctoral programme, without supplementary training are the following, offered by the USC: Health Care and Management; Law; Biotechnology; Dental Science; Biomedical Research; Drug Research and Development; Research in Veterinary Medicine and Health; Advanced Chemistry; Organic Chemistry.

    Access without supplementary training is also open to students with the Diploma of Advanced Studies obtained through the following USC Doctoral Programmes: Forensic Sciences and Pathology; Molecular Medicine; Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Basic and Applied Research in Veterinary Science; Research in Veterinary Medicine and Health.

    In the case of candidates with profiles different to those mentioned above, the Academic Committee evaluates each case individually. The possibility of requiring supplementary training (maximum 15 ECTS credits) will be considered. Students who did not take master's courses: They will need an equivalence of training in research credits, equal to at least the master's degree that provides direct access, which is 15 ECTS credits.

    Students with an unaccredited foreign degree can apply for admission to doctoral studies provided they can certify a level of studies equal to the Spanish official University Master's Degree and authorises the holder to access Doctoral level studies in the issuing country. This admission will under no circumstances entail the accreditation of the previous degree nor its recognition for purposes other than to access these courses.

  • The criteria for admission which will be taken into account by the DPAC are the following:

    1. Academic transcript: 40%
    2. Knowledge of English (B1 level or higher). Candidates must provide proof: 10%
    3. Professional experience. Candidates must provide documentary proof: 10%
    4. Research experience. Candidates must provide documentary proof (publication of articles, monographs, participation in research groups,…):10%
    5. Other merits: adequacy of the candidate’s profile to the line of research: 15%
    6. Interview: 15%

  • The main objective of this Masters degree is to train professionals and researchers in aquaculture; professionals with a solid recognised training at job level and researchers whose training allows them to carry out their research, with cutting-edge technologies, while keeping abreast of problems in production processing.
