Renewable Energy Workshop

Complete the transversal training of the students with practical workshops and visits to reference facilities so that they see the applicability and potential of renewable energies, analyze their sustainability processes and related processes, and how this new energy policy can cause a positive impact as a policy in the fight against climate change.

Specific workshops for:
a) Know the techniques for estimating wind resources and know how to use the WAsP computer application, how to monitor and control numerous technical parameters of the different components of wind turbines in wind farms, as well as the specific terms that must be taken into account. to analyze the economic viability of wind farms. Estimation of the production of electric power from wind farms using specific software, study of the feasibility of wind farms, monitoring and control of wind farms using SCADA software, operation of a wind farm . Workshops with lectures and practical demonstrations of technologies in other lines of renewable energy such as solar or biomass, to sustainability and energy efficiency.
b) Presentation of the TROCO2 project in the CARBON EXCHANGE CROSS-BORDER MARKET.
c) hydraulic channel of the EPS in Lugo to make a practical case of wave.
d) practical knowledge of how machines that use renewable energy resources work and have a broader vision of aspects related to renewable energy and sustainability, which you will acquire in the classes associated with activities in the AER (Renewable Energy Classroom of the USC).
Complementary technical visits to reference facilities inside and outside Galicia such as the geothermal plants of the Galician Parliament or the one of the School of Engineers of Mieres, the visit to a coal thermal plant under exploitation of HUNOSA, to SOGAMA, to the Plant from Bioethanol from Curtis, to the company BIOMASA FORESTAL SL, or to a district heating in the Parque de la Milagrosa in Lugo.
These activities may vary depending on the appearance of other activities of interest.

The bibliography, given the nature of the subject, will be adapted to the data and information of the fields under study.

CE02 - Develop skills in the field of design, implementation, operation and maintenance in efficient, renewable and sustainable energy facilities, applying modeling, planning and optimization tools
CE03 - Advise on the development of projects related to renewable energy and energy sustainability, analyze, from a technical, economic and social point of view, energy projects and propose specific and innovative solutions for companies and individuals
CE10 - Understand and establish methodologies for the diagnosis, management and sustainable energy planning through the valorization of own energy resources in different types of settlement and apply this type of procedure in simple cases.

The matter will be developed in hours of master classes and various activities (seminars, round tables, colloquia, etc.), using all the audiovisual means that are available and that make the matter enjoyable and formative for the student.
The student will be given all the base material necessary for the study of the subject through the subject's virtual website.
The student will have the corresponding tutorial hours to answer questions, expand knowledge and improve the presentation processes of the seminars.
Students must develop in a group or individually throughout the course a work that they must present.
Exceptionally, a final exam of the subject may be carried out.
The theoretical part is developed with the help of different audiovisual media that generate an attractive content proposal and facilitate their understanding. During the development of the agenda, computer programs and the Internet may be used.
All the student's tasks (study, work, readings) will be guided by the academic staff in tutorials that may be face-to-face or carried out through the USC-virtual means.
In all cases, the tools available in the virtual USC will be used to provide students with the necessary material for the development of the subject (presentations, notes, supporting texts, bibliography, videos, etc.) and to establish communication fluent teacher-student.
All the student's tasks (study, work, readings) will be guided by the academic staff in tutorials that may be face-to-face or carried out through the USC-virtual means.
In all cases, the tools available in the virtual USC will be used to provide students with the necessary material for the development of the subject (presentations, notes, supporting texts, bibliography, videos, etc.) and to establish communication fluent teacher-student.

The evaluation of the subject will be continuous and will be made up of a combination of:
Attendance and attitude in class: 10%
Carrying out various activities (practices, problems, various tasks, etc.): 40%
Development and presentation of the seminar (individually or in groups): 50%
Failure to meet any of the above requirements the student may sit for an exam on first call and if not exceed it may sit for another exam on second call. The grade obtained in these exams will be the one obtained by the student as a final grade in the learning assessment process.
Students who did not take the exam or undergo the evaluation of any other compulsory activity will obtain the grade of not presented.

For cases of fraudulent performance of exercises or tests, the provisions of the "Regulations for the evaluation of the academic performance of students and the review of grades" will apply.
Article 16. Fraudulent performance of exercises or tests.
The fraudulent performance of any exercise or test required in the evaluation of a subject will imply the qualification of failure in the corresponding call, regardless of the disciplinary process that may be followed against the offending student. It is considered fraudulent, among others, the realization of plagiarized works or obtained from sources accessible to the public without re-elaboration or reinterpretation and without citations to the authors and the sources.
In general, different tests may be carried out to verify obtaining theoretical / practical knowledge and acquisition of skills and attitudes.
