Work placements

The current Faculty of Nursing reflects the constant development and evolution of nursing studies at USC during recent times. In the 1960s, the School of Nursing was created, and in 1977, as part of the University Diploma in Nursing, the University School of Nursing was established on the premises of the former Burgo de las Naciones, with its own management. In 1984, it moved to its current location, on Avenida de Juan XXIII, and in 1999, the Hospital Clínico Universitario was inaugurated, where practical teaching is carried out together with other centres, both for hospital and primary care.

In 1995, the Teaching Unit of Midwives in Galicia with the Speciality of Obstetric-Gynaecological Nursing was established at the School, where the theoretical training programme for future specialist nurses is undertaken, coordinating the assistance work placements with the accredited centres of the Galician Health Service.

In 2010, the adaptation to the European Higher Education Area meant a great transformation at all levels, creating the current Degree in Nursing with an extension of the curriculum to four years. At the same time, in 2011 the centre became the Faculty of Nursing, where official postgraduate training was also provided through the master's degree courses that give access to doctoral programmes, thus promoting research in nursing. In addition, new spaces were made available in the Nóvoa Santos teaching building, annexed to the Hospital Clínico Universitario.

It is our desire to continue offering quality teaching that allows for the training of future nursing professionals prepared to face the challenges of the future at both a healthcare and management, teaching and research level.
