  • - To identify the patient who, due to his disability or systemic pathology, meets the criteria of "Patients with Special Needs" in the dental field.
-Identify the physical, psychological and social characteristics that differentiate the child from the adult and the repercussions of it in the dental field.
    - To establish general treatment guidelines for these patients, in which the difficulties of access to dental care are evident, the necessary precautions are adopted and preventive strategies are designed.
    - To know the specific dental treatment protocols for each disease process, rigorously applying the appropriate prophylaxis guidelines, requesting the pertinent complementary tests and determining the importance of completing the information with the responsible doctor.
    - To design individualized treatment plans, adapted to each particular situation, and determine in which cases the patient should be referred to the corresponding specialist.
    - To acquire specific training that allows solving the most frequent problems in the environment in which they carry out their professional activity, related to dental practice in Patients with Special Needs and Pediatric Dentistry.
    - To train students to understand the importance of these patients in the framework of Dentistry and that of it within the health system, encouraging them to contribute to improving it, to exercise their profession with an ethical sense, and to collaborate in the execution of the health care and health promotion plans
The master is essentially practical following a "type-MIR" model. The students make direct contact with the patients and unfold their skills and competencies in a clinical way. The assistance activity is complemented with clinical sessions to discuss cases and with theoretical classes on very specific topics. Certain clinical procedures are tested in models prior to putting them into practice on patients. The extent that students demonstrate their acquisition of knowledge and skills increases the complexity of the cases to be treated.
