- Know how to define the concept of quality.
- Acquire the basic knowledge about quality management in a laboratory, as well as about the quality control and evaluation activities, necessary to ensure quality both in the operation of the laboratory and in the results issued.
- Know the tools for quality improvement.
- Know the validity of the methods and calibrate the equipment.
- Acquire basic knowledge about the accreditation process of an activity in a laboratory.
- To train the student in the search for information on certification and accreditation bodies and agencies at national and international level, as well as the normative references applicable to different real cases.
*Quality management. General concepts.
*Quality management tools.
*Statistical process control.
*Analytical methodology and quality. Validation.
*Quality assessment in a testing laboratory.
*Inter-laboratory exercises, accreditation and standards.
Basic:

Knowledge
Con05. Know the quality management procedures in a biochemical laboratory and the modern chemometric techniques of multivariate data analysis.
Competence
Comp01. Develop the ability to properly organize and plan work, based on a synthesis and analysis that allows decisions to be made.
Comp04. That students know how to apply theoretical-practical knowledge in a professional way and are competent in the approach/resolution of problems both in academic and professional contexts related to Biosciences.
Ability
H/D03. Ability to design and carry out experiments using advanced instrumental techniques, applying regulations and techniques related to safety and hygiene, waste management and quality.
H/D06. Interpret experimental results and identify consistent and inconsistent elements.
* Lectures and seminars (25 hours): the teacher will explain the fundamental theoretical content of each topic and its importance in the context of the subject. The classes will be developed in an interactive way with the students, discussing with them the most difficult and especially interesting aspects of each topic.
* Internship in the computer room (9 hours). Attendance will be mandatory. The practical sessions will be held into the performance of the corresponding practice and to the interpretation of the results.
* Tutorials (2 hours). The aim is to closely monitor the work carried out by each student, as well as to clarify doubts and guide the student's personal work.
* The USC Virtual Campus will be used on an ongoing basis to support teaching
The evaluation will be carried out taking into account the following aspects:
* Final exam: 75% of the final grade. It will be a multiple-choice exam (each question will have 4 answers, of which only one is correct).
Competencies assessed: Con05, Comp01, H/D03
* Internships (compulsory attendance): completion of the internship and presentation of a report (20% of the final grade).
Competencies assessed: Comp04, H/D06
* Continuous evaluation: 5% of the final grade. Active participation in class and problem solving will be an asset.
Competencies assessed: Con05, H/D03
The final grade will be achieved if the grade of the exam is at least 3.75 (out of 7.5). The positive assessment of the work done through the internship will increase the grade of the exam until the final score.
"In cases of fraudulent completion of exercises or tests, the provisions of the "Regulations for the evaluation of students' academic performance and the review of grades" will apply.
The subject consists of 4.5 ECTS credits. The total number of student work hours is 76.5; of which 47% are face-to-face and 53% are hours of autonomous student work.
GROUP TYPE
Theoretical teaching: 24 hours, 100 % face-to-face.
Interactive Teaching Seminar: 1 hour, 100 % face-to-face.
Interactive Teaching Laboratory/Computer Room: 9 hours, 100 % face-to-face.
Small group tutoring: 2 hours, 100 % face-to-face.
Students' personal work: 76,5 hours, 0 % face-to-face.
- Attendance at classes with active participation
- Continuous study of the subject
- Taking advantage of internships
- Use of individualized tutorials to resolve doubts generated in the study of the subject
- Consultation of the recommended bibliography. It is important to consult the recommended bibliography for a better understanding of the subject and to have a better overview of the field of action of Quality Assurance.
The subject is taught in the two official languages of the Autonomous Community.
The qualification of the 2nd opportunity will be made based on the results obtained in an exam similar to the one made in the 1st opportunity of the corresponding call and the evaluations obtained in the internships will be kept in the two opportunities of each call.
Students who have not completed the internship will be graded as no-shows.
