The objectives of the course are:
Know the referents in the construction of the journalistic message. Know the elements of writing information. Knowledge of the determining factors of newsworthiness and of the professional procedures leading to the preparation and writing of informative texts. Analysis and understanding of the techniques and forms of expression of the information system, the journalistic message and gender variables and models.
The priority objective of the subject is, therefore, that the student acquires knowledge that allows him to understand how events and "pseudo-events" occur in society, how they become news and what steps must be taken for the construction of the messages and for them to achieve communicative efficiency. The subject will encourage the student's curiosity to know the twists and turns of the functioning of today's complex society, the need to search for those events that are of greatest interest to citizens, the evaluation criteria and the techniques for preparing messages.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Students enrolled in this subject do not have the right to teach from the 2024-2025 academic year because the subject is extinct. They only have the right to be evaluated according to the contents of the program that was taught in the 2023-2024 academic year.
Contents include:
Writing for the media. The value of current affairs as a central element of informative discourse. Study and training in technology, analysis and expression of forms in print and electronic media. Theory and technique of the treatment of the journalistic message. Elements of journalistic style. Approaches to the reality of Galician journalists and other reference journalists. The integral construction of the journalistic message and the variants by support and by expressive modality.
The contents of the course will revolve, therefore, around the study and training in technology, analysis and expression of printed and electronic forms and media. The program includes questions related to the theory and technique of the treatment of the journalistic message.
THEORETICAL CONTENT:
The Central Theoretical Contents will turn on the Basic Concepts of the Journalistic Procedure and the Questions relation with the Theory and the Technique for Writing in the Mass Media. The Descriptor of the Subject includes the next Aspects:
- The Value of the Present Time as Central Element of the Informative Discourse.
- Study and Capacitating in the Technology, in the Analysis and in the Expression of Forms in Printed and Electronic Means.
- Theory and Technique of the Journalistic Message.
- Elements of the Journalistic Style.
- Approximations to the Reality of the Galician Journalists and other Journalists of Reference.
- The Integral Construction of the Journalistic Message and the Variables of Gender and Models.

Unit 9: Valuation of the News.
PRACTICAL CONTENT:
The central practical contents will revolve around news writing for the media. The student will prepare informative pieces for all supports, for which they must have consumable materials and support products to prepare multimedia, virtual reality and database management pieces. She will work with software for multimedia products and with existing hardware in computer labs to produce text, sound, images, and video. She may need support for a set piece. The final piece will be edited and broadcast. These practical contents are related to the theoretical contents.

The primary objective of the subject is for students to acquire knowledge that allows them to understand how events and "pseudo-events" occur in society, how they become news and what steps must be taken to construct messages and to that they achieve communicative efficiency. The subject will encourage the student's curiosity to know the twists and turns of the functioning of today's complex society, the need to search for those events that are of greatest interest to citizens, the evaluation criteria and the techniques for preparing messages.
The subject should help the student to have skills and abilities for news writing and the construction of informative pieces from current events.
The basic and general skills are:
CB2 - That students know how to apply their knowledge to their work or vocation in a professional way and possess the skills that are usually demonstrated through the elaboration and defense of arguments and the resolution of problems within their area of study

CE08 - Learn the narrative techniques of photojournalism and documentary.

The teaching methodology will combine different techniques (it will include theoretical master classes, theoretical seminar classes, practical seminar classes, tutored individual and group work, case studies...), encouraging the student's involvement in their training process at all times. In addition, the student will carry out laboratory practices in newsrooms, with current computer equipment and software programs. And, if there is funding, a field practice.
Remote activities are planned through the virtual campus.

The evaluation will be continuous, so there will be constant monitoring of the knowledge that the student acquires. The content and attitude evaluation instruments will basically be:
a. Theoretical exam(s). 50%
b. Practices carried out during practical classes. 50%
For cases of fraudulent completion of exercises or tests, the provisions of the Regulations for evaluating the academic performance of students and reviewing grades will apply.
For teaching exemption:
In this subject, attendance to interactive classrooms cannot be exempted because it requires individual and/or group exercises that involve collaboration between several students, as well as the presence in the classroom of the teacher to check their evolution. In addition, it is necessary to use the specific spaces of the faculty where the laboratories are taught. The theoretical syllabus will be evaluated only with the final exam.
According to the permanence regulations in force in the USC for Undergraduate and Master students (art. 5.2), the mere attendance, as well as the participation in any of the activities carried out in the interactive classes, will be subject to evaluation and, therefore, the final grade of the student who completes them in no case will be "Not Presented".
Second opportunity
In this case it will be evaluated in the same way as in the first one. If the student has passed a part (theory or practice of the subject), the grade will be saved for the second opportunity. In case of exemption from class attendance, a personalized work plan will be established with the subject teacher.
The students will have the following scheduled training activities:

Individual or group autonomous study: 40 hours

Planning, searching, recording and preparation of support material (texts, images, audio, etc.): 50 hours

The planning of the activities and debates will be organized in the first two weeks of class.
