Final Master's Project

Procedure to start the preparation of the master thesis.

Modality 1

The student will send the Program Coordinator before October 15th:
a) Name, surnames of the student.
b) Name, surnames of the tutor.
c) Line or research group, as the case may be, to which the master thesis is attached.
d) Provisional title of the work.

Modality 2

The coordinator will propose a list of available lines and tutors at the beginning of the course.
Within a month, students who opt for the second modality will send the coordinator an ordered list of lines and tutors in order of preference. In case several applications concur in the same work, the academic record will be taken into account.


The Academic Committee will proceed with the appointment of the different tutors and co-tutors before the end of the month of October.

It is not possible to specify a general bibliography valid for all the master theses that will be developed. The specific bibliography of each work will be specified in the different project proposals approved by the Academic Committee of the Master.

BASIC AND GENERAL COMPETENCES

GENERAL
• CG01 - Introduce students into the research, as an integral part of a deep formation, preparing them for the eventual completion of a doctoral thesis.
• CG02 - Acquisition of high level mathematical tools for diverse applications, covering the expectations of graduates in mathematics and other basic sciences.
• CG03 - Know the broad panorama of current mathematics, both in its lines of research and in its methodologies, resources and problems it addresses in various fields
• CG04 - Train for the analysis, formulation and resolution of problems in new or unfamiliar environments, within broader contexts.
• CG05 - Prepare for decision-making based on abstract considerations, to organize and plan and to solve complex issues.

BASIC
• CB6 - Possess and understand knowledge that provides a basis or opportunity to be original in the development and / or application of ideas, often in a research context.
• CB7 - That students know how to apply the knowledge acquired and their ability to solve problems in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their area of study.
• CB8 - That students are able to integrate knowledge and face the complexity of making judgments based on information that, being incomplete or limited, includes reflections on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments.

TRANSVERSAL COMPETENCES
• CT01 - Use bibliography and search tools for general and specific bibliographic resources of Mathematics, including Internet access
• CT02 - Optimally manage work time and organize available resources, establishing priorities, alternative paths and identifying logical errors in decision-making.
• CT03 - Enhance capacity for work in cooperative and multidisciplinary environments.

SPECIFIC COMPETENCES
• CE01 - Train for the study and research in mathematical theories in development.
• CE02 - Apply the tools of mathematics in various fields of science, technology and social sciences.
• CE03 - Develop the necessary skills for the transmission of mathematics, oral and written, both in regard to formal correction, as well as in terms of communicative effectiveness, emphasizing the use of appropriate ICT.

It does not seem reasonable to establish a general methodology applies to all master theses. The project-specific methodology is indicated for each of the different proposals for such work and, of course, approved by the Academic Committee of the Master.

The evaluation of the master thesis will be carried out through public defense before a tribunal proposed by the Academic Committee of the degree.

The Academic Committee of the Master will indicate the necessary conditions to be able to present the master thesis.

The court or courts of the master thesis will be composed of three professors from the areas that are charged with the teaching of the master's degree, excluding the tutors of the presented master theses. The commission will be appointed by the academic commission at the beginning of the second semester, once the list of tutors has been determined.

The course has 18 credits. The number of sessions with the tutor will depend on the kind of project. A thorough dedication will be essential for the completion of the thesis.

Each director of a job will make recommendations as appropriate to his/her student.

To start the master thesis, the student has to pass all compulsory subjects in the first semester. Each proposed master thesis may include indications related electives that would be advisable to study by students. At the time of presenting the work, the student must have passed all other required credits for the title. The master thesis can be presented in both semesters.
