Master’s thesis

The Master's Thesis involves the student carrying out a project developed in a company or in a research group in which he applies and develops the knowledge acquired within the master's degree. The work must be oriented to the application of the general competences associated with the degree. This subject, which is useful for all modules, will develop a large number of transversal skills:
-Prepare, write and public defend scientific and technical reports.
-Work in a team and adapt to multidisciplinary teams.
-Work autonomously and efficiently in the daily practice of research or professional activity.
-Appreciate the value of quality and continuous improvement, acting with rigor, responsibility and professional ethics.
-Demonstrate an attitude of respect towards the opinions, values, behaviors, and practices of others.

The Master's Thesis will have a professional or research nature according to the chosen itinerary:
1.- Professional itinerary: it will involve carrying out a professional project in a company with which an agreement has been signed.
2.- Academic-researcher itinerary: it will involve carrying out a research work within a research group.
The Master's Thesis will involve carrying out a project associated with a work plan signed by the person /s who will / will tutor the student, in such a way that the student will have to carry out: Bibliographic documentation on background and status current theme of the proposed project. Elaboration of a proposal of objectives, carrying out the experiments, data processing, elaboration and defense of a memory of results and conclusions.

General and basic skills

CG2 - Identify information from the scientific literature using the appropriate channels and integrate this information to raise and contextualize a research topic.
CG3 – To valorate the responsibility in the management of information and knowledge in the field of Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Research.

CG5- Use scientific terminology in the English language to argue experimental results in the context of the chemical profession
CG6 - Correctly apply the new technologies of capture and organization of information to solve problems in the professional activity.
CG8- Assess the human, economic, legal and technical dimension in professional practice, as well as the impact of chemistry on the environment and on the sustainable development of society
CB6- Possess and understand knowledge that provides a basis or opportunity to be original in the development and / or application of ideas, often in a research context
CB7 - To apply the knowledge acquired and the ability to solving problems in new or little-known environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their area of study.
CB8 – To integrate knowledge and face the complexity of formulating judgments from information that, being incomplete or limited, includes reflections on the social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments.
CB9 - To know how to communicate their conclusions and the knowledge and ultimate reasons that support them to specialized and non-specialized audiences in a clear and unambiguous way.
CB10 - That students possess the learning skills that allow them to continue studying in a way that will be largely self-directed

CE1- Define concepts, principles, theories and specialized facts of the different areas of chemistry
CE2- Propose alternatives for the resolution of complex chemical problems of the different chemical specialities
CE3- Work autonomously and efficiently in the daily practice of research or professional activity
CE4 – To innovate in the methods of synthesis and chemical analysis related to the different areas of Chemistry.
CE5 – To be able to correctly assess the risks and the environmental and socio-economic impact associated with special chemicals.
CE6- Design processes that involve the treatment or elimination of dangerous chemicals
CE7 – To be able to operate with advanced instrumentation for chemical analysis and structural determination.
CE8 – To analyze and to use the data obtained autonomously in complex laboratory experiments relating them to appropriate chemical, physical or biological techniques, and including the use of primary bibliographic sources.
CE9- value, promote and practice innovation and entrepreneurship in industry and chemical research

Resolution of practical exercises (problems, multiple choice questions, interpretation and processing of information, evaluation of scientific publications, etc.)
Individual or small group tutorials.
Oral presentation of works, reports, etc., including debate with teachers and students.
Use of specialized computer programs and the internet. Online teaching support (Virtual Campus).
Personal study based on the different sources of information

Completion of the different tests to verify the obtaining of both theoretical and practical knowledge and the acquisition of skills and attitudes
Stay in the laboratory or in a company to carry out advanced practices and / or the Master’ Thesis. Individual practical work under the supervision of a personal tutor, with the adequate infrastructure and other necessary means to be able to achieve the proposed objectives.

Final exam, 100%
The evaluation will be carried out by a court appointed for this purpose by the Academic Committee of the Master's Thesis. The court will evaluate the oral expression, the memory and the defense of the same in a public act.
"For cases of fraudulent performance of exercises or tests, students and qualifications review will be applied or recollected to the Regulations for the validation of academic performance."
