Albert Fert

Nobel Prize “for the discovery of giant magnetoresistance”.

This new phenomenon, found in mixed materials, gave rise to a revolution in the field of register and access to information. The time gap needed to transfer this basic knowledge, from basic research, to industrial application at the maximum level, was of around one decade, becoming a reference and example. It is one of the main applications of the emerging field of nanotechnology. This finding is present in the current laptops, music reproductors and, in general, in many of the commercial electronic systems used nowadays.
