The USC phD Program in Chemical and Environmental Engineering is taught at the Technical School of Engineering (ETSE) in the Department of Chemical Engineering
The PhD in Chemical and Environmental Engineering, first offered by USC on technical education, obtained the Quality Mention since its first official announcement from the Ministry in the 2003-2004 academic year. Later, the Excellence Mention was obtained in the 2011-2012, also first year this recognition appeared (RD 99/2011).
The program, is based in following premises:
1. To keep the learning trajectory bound to the first doctor in the USC in our knowledge field in 1958.
2. Stimulate the education in advanced areas of the knowledge frontier between the Chemical and Environmental Engineering for the actual and future chemical engineers inside the new structure of the EHEA.
3. Training of new researching staff, looking towards their future incorporation in the R&D field of companies, which is a key factor for the takeoff of the researching in our country, encouraging the development of a sustainable researching structure.
4. Foreign postgraduates recruitment, European and from other regions in the world. It is specially expected to keep and increase the number of iberoamerican alumni that usually made their theses in past PhD programs.
Dates of approval and publication of the program:
- Implementation authorization Xunta de Galicia: 05/12/2013
- Publication BOE: 11/03/2014
- Last accreditation: 18/05/2020
- New memory of the PD: 28/04/2022
Mentions to the title: Internacional PhD, Industrial phD and International Cotutela Agreements
Study regime: Part time and full time
Interuniversity Degree: No
Objectives
It is tried to give a junction of knowledge in Chemical and Environmental Engineering that will be enough for the engineers and other college graduates to have the possibility to efficiently develop the innovation and scientific-technological development tasks that will make possible the PhD thesis elaboration.
The program’s specific objectives are:
1. To incorporate college graduates to the university world, particularly to the department’s investigation lines, promoting their implication not only in the investigation as said, but in the project’s gestation.
2. To bring up doctors whose incorporation to the industrial sector improves the creation and implantation of R&D teams
3. To promote the knowledge interchange with other researching groups in other R&D centers by means the mobility of ours alumni and professors.
4. To increase the scientific and technologic knowledge in the Chemical, Environmental and Bioprocesses Engineering and fields, improving its diffusion in high impact index scientific publicationsSkills
In compliance with the R.D. 99_2011 the following basic skills will be guarantied:
- That the alumni have showed a systematic comprehension of a study field and the control of the skills and investigation methods related with that field.
- That the alumni have showed the capability to conceive, to design, to carry out and to adopt a substantial investigation process with academic responsibly.
- That the alumni have done a contribution through an original investigation which expands the knowledge frontiers developing a substantial corpus from which in turn will merit national and international publications
- That the students are able to do a critical analysis, an evaluation and a synthesis of new and complex ideas
- That the students know how to communicate with their mates, with the academic community and with the society about his knowledge area
- That they are supposed to be able to encourage the technologic, social and cultural advance in academic and professional context within a society based in the knowledge
Doctoral Programme Academic Committee
Each PhD Program has an Academic Committee (DPAC), responsible for the design, implementation, updating, organization, quality and coordination of the PhD program.
CAPD will be composted by a minimum of five members and a maximum of fifteen, from among or faculty assigned to the program, it will be appointed by the rector. DPAC has a president and a secretary.Members that make up DPAC doctoral program in Chemical and Environmental Engineering since 09/21/2018:

Normativas académicas (web-EDIUS)
On a regular basis, different grants are called annually for the training of the doctoral student and the completion of his doctoral thesis, such as those shown in the following th e link of EDIUS
The Chemical and Environmental Engineering Doctoral Program offers training that allows graduates with a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering or equivalent qualifications to acquire the ability to work in the field of scientific and applied research, related to the development of chemical and environmental processes. that is respectful with the environment, also promoting the responsible use of resources and energy.
The graduate of the doctoral program in Chemical and Environmental Engineering will be a researcher with skills to lead high-level research teams, capable of proposing, carrying out and carrying out research and innovations that lead to the generation of new knowledge in the field of chemical engineering and its transversal sciences. She will also connect work, research and academic results with European, national and regional interests, advancing research projects that, from a scientific and technological base, meet the needs and priorities of companies and institutions. The graduate can generate development and innovation from a perspective that improves the quality of life of society.
The doctors of the Program in Chemical and Environmental Engineering work in public and private research centers (R+D+i centres), in Universities and in a very high percentage (more than 50%) in private companies ranging from chemical industry itself to other related sectors, such as the pharmaceutical, biotechnological, food or environmental sectors. The positions to be held will be:
• Project managers
• R+D+i technicians
• R+D+i consultants
• Senior Researchers
• University Professor
• Managers and technicians in industry, engineering, administration and services. The University of Santiago de Compostela has a residences’ system in the campus of Santiago with an extraordinary quality and with prices depending on the economic incomes.
