To provide students with a knowledge base of the different areas that make up Chemical Engineering with special emphasis on conservation equations and the application of transport phenomena, allowing them to understand the main unitary operations and the fundamentals of the equipment that allow the correct operation of an industrial chemical facility
The contents of the course revolve around the following descriptors: Chemical process and chemical industry. Mass and energy balances. Application of transport mechanisms. Molecular and convective transport. Unit operations: fluid circulation, heat transfer and mass transfer. Design of chemical reactors. The following topics are structured:
Unit 1.- Chemical Engineering and chemical processes.
Origin, concept and institutionalization of Chemical Engineering. General scheme of the chemical industry. Continuous and discontinuous operations. Steady and unsteady state. Classification of unit operations
Topic 2.- Conservation principles I: Mass balances
Mass balances in systems without chemical reaction. BMass balances in systems with chemical reaction. Chemical reactors
Topic 3.- Conservation principles II: Energy balances
Energy balances in systems without chemical reaction. Energy balances in systems with chemical reaction
Unit 4.- Fluid flow.
Continuity equation. Mechanical energy balances
Unit 5.- Heat transfer.
Heat transfer mechanisms. Heat energy balances
Unit 6.- Introduction to separation processes
General features. Continuous and intermittent contact. DistillationBasic

CG2-To be able to gather and interpret data, information and relevant results, draw conclusions and issue reports on scientific and technological problems or problems of other areas requiring the use of knowledge of chemistry
CG3-To apply both theoretical and practical knowledge and the ability of analysis in the problems definition and approach, finding their solutions in both academic and professional contexts
CG4-To learn to communicate, both in writing and oral, knowledge, procedures, results and ideas in chemistry
CG5-To be able to study and learn, independently, new knowledge and techniques in any scientific or technological field
Specific
CE9- To learn about Unit Operations of Chemical Engineering
CE14-To solve qualitative and quantitative problems with previously developed models
CE15-To recognize and analyze new problems, and to plan strategies to solve them
Cross-curricular
CT7-Working in a interdisciplinary team
CT8-Working in an international context
CT11-Ethical commitment
CT12-Self-learning
CT15-Leadership
CT16-Motivation for quality
CT17-Sensitivity to environmental problemsThe course will be taught based on lectures and interactive classes, mainly seminars that will be dedicated to solving problems in the bulletins that are delivered, by the teacher and / or students. There will be two group tutorials.
The Learning Management System will be used as a teaching support tool.
Teaching will be given in Spanish / Galician.
Expository and interactive seminar classes: face-to-face, will take place in the classroom
Group tutorials: face-to-face, in the classroom. In one of the group tutorials, teamwork will be considered.
Individual tutorials: face-to-faceThe assessment of this subject will be carried out through continuous assessment and the completion of a final exam. The student's qualification will not be lower than that of the final exam or that obtained by weighing it with that of the continuous assessment
The continuous evaluation will have a weight of 35% in the final qualification distributed second:
5% active participation in the class;
15% seminars (includes the evaluation of the problems solved by the students collected at the end of the seminars)
15% titories (includes teamwork)
There will be a single final exam for all students of the subject with a weight of 65% of the total qualification (theory 1/3, problems 2/3) that will deal with all the contents of the subject.
A minimum score of 35% will be required in each part (both in theory and problems) in order to pass the exam.
Repeating students will be governed by the same rules as those taking the subject for the first time.
The grades of the continuous evaluation are kept for the second exam opportunity of the corresponding academic year.
If the subject is not passed at the first opportunity and if required, the student will be able to recover the part corresponding to teamwork at the second opportunity.
Competency assessment
Final exam: CG2, CG3, CG4, CG5, CT11, CT12, CT16, CE9, CE14

In cases of fraudulent performance of exercises or tests, that established in the "Regulations for the evaluation of the academic performance of students and the review of qualifications" will apply. The subject is 6 ECTS, corresponding to an ECTS of 25 hours of total work, which are distributed, on average, as follows:
Face-to-face Self-employment student
Exhibition clases 24 40
Seminars 22 44
